I designed Malvolio's cross-garter costume with two goals. The first was to make the costume as bright and bold as possible, yet remain tasteful. The second goal was to incorporate maize and blue into the costume, because the actor at that time was the Dean of Arts and Sciences at the University of Michigan-Flint. I constructed the leggings from a commercial pattern. I created the cotehardie from a pattern that I drafted. The blue cross garters were strips of fabric that I cut to fit the actor’s legs.
